What is a CNC Router? How does it work and where is it used?

A CNC router is an industrial machining machine that enables computer-controlled cutting, drilling, grooving, and shaping of materials such as wood, MDF, particleboard, plastic, plexiglass, composite panels, and aluminum.
The abbreviation “CNC” stands for “Computer Numerical Control.” The design prepared by the operator is converted into G-code that the machine can understand using a suitable CAM program. The CNC router follows these commands to perform operations with high precision and repeatability.
How Does a CNC Router Work?
In a CNC router system, the cutting tool is connected to the spindle motor. The X, Y, and Z axes of the machine are moved simultaneously by the control system. Thus, the cutting tool moves across the material according to the prepared design.
The general working process consists of the following stages:
The drawing of the product to be machined is prepared in a CAD program.
Cutting directions, depths, and tool options are determined in the CAM program.
The prepared work is converted into G-code.
The material is placed and fixed on the CNC router table.
The cutting tool and working zero are set.
The program is started and the machine completes the operation automatically.
In vacuum table CNC router models, the material is fixed to the surface by powerful vacuum pumps. This system reduces material movement, especially when machining large sheets, thus increasing cutting accuracy.
